Milla Jovovich is ready to walk away from zombies, mutants, and chaos in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
Over 14 years later, and six films to boot, the video game adaptation is finally coming to a proper close, and judging from the first trailer, Jovovich is going all out with bullets, blood, and bodies. “We played a long game, you and I,” Game of Thrones star Iain Glen taunts the protagonist. “But now it’s over.”
In case you’re confused, or just don’t remember 2012’s Resident Evil: Retribution, here’s the official synopsis:
“Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.”
Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, and Fraser James round out the cast. Director and screenwriter Paul W.S. Anderson returns once again, shutting down what he started way, way back in 2002. Here’s hoping fans get the closure they deserve for sticking around for so long.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hits theaters January 27th, 2017.
