Neil Burger to direct The Intouchables remake with Bryan Cranston, Kevin Hart

on August 25, 2016, 1:55pm

Back in March, The Weinstein Company locked Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart to star in their remake of the wildly successful 2011 French dramedy The Intouchables. At the time, it was reported that the film would be directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) using a script drafted by Ghostbusters director Paul Feig (who himself had previously circled the director’s chair). Now, though, Deadline reports that both Curtis and Feig have been replaced.

Limitless and Divergent director Neil Burger has been tapped to helm the production using a script penned by newcomer Jon Hartmere. Deadline calls Hartmere’s screenplay “a fresh take on the original concept.”

The original movie was directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano. It told the story of a quadriplegic millionaire (Francois Cluzet) who hires a young man from the projects (Omar Sy) as his caretaker. The film grossed an impressive $416 million overseas, and TWC has been trying to get a remake off the ground ever since. They’ve finally done it, with production scheduled to begin January 15th.
