PWR BTTM want to be buried in “New Hampshire” on new single — listen

Brooklyn’s PWR BTTM released their debut album, Ugly Cherries (Father/Daughter), last fall. However, that was only in the US, and UK audiences have yet to be fully turned on to the band’s queer punk stylings. That’ll change with the British reissue of the LP on Big Scary Monsters on October 7th. As if to apologize for the wait, two new bonus tracks will be included on the record. “Projection” was shared last month, and now PWR BTTM has revealed the other one, “New Hampshire”.

The track is as close to a ballad as the duo has ever released. It’s a wistful tune of pattering percussion and lonely strums of guitar is broken with the occasional outburst of electric overdrive. “It’s a song about greener grass,” the band’s Ben Hopkins explained in a press release. “I wrote it during a period of time where I hated where I lived and who I was there, and I just felt so helpless that like I figured whenever I did inevitably wither away the parties that be could ship me somewhere better. Reflecting on it, the hopelessness I felt was actually in me, and the place I was in or where I wanted to be couldn’t help things if I wasn’t willing to help myself first.”
