Peak-TV just got even peakier. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore are set to star in a new series from Oscar-nominated filmmaker David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle).
That’s a hell of a lot of Hollywood heft for a television series, and any network would surely kill to have those names in their primetime slot. That’s probably why Russell’s rep, CAA, is already fielding numerous offers for the project completely sight unseen. In fact, Russell is on vacation right now and isn’t even expected to start making formal pitches until next week.
Besides the fact that it’s full of A-listers and is expected to be a limited series, nothing else is known about the project. Plot details are a still a closely guarded secret and no production company has stepped in to even take it on. We don’t even know if the people submitting offers are from cable, broadcast, or streaming. Heck, the whole thing could fall apart before it even gets to lens, much like Russell’s failed ABC series with Betsy Brandt, 2014’s The Club.
Still — with no disrespect to Ms. Brandt — this has two Oscar winners in De Niro and Moore attached. Somehow we doubt this won’t get picked up somewhere.
