Okay, so you write a song for a movie called Suicide Squad, and you base the hook on the fact that one of the most iconic characters in said movie drives a purple Lamborghini. Now, you’re Skrillex and you’ve got Rick Ross rapping on the track, so no one’s expecting an artistic masterwork. Just give us a thumping beat with a bunch of electronic scratching, let Ross yell at us with some completely unconnected bars of violence and crime (“Deadshot, head shot, oh my God, am I crazy?/ Drugs every corner, this is Gotham City/ Killer Croc came to kidnap you, to cut out your kidney/ Ain’t no mercy, got that purple Lamborghini lurkin’/ Rozay, don’t you know that pussy worth it”), and call it “Purple Lamborghini”. Job done.
Oh, but now you’re going to put Jared Leto as the actual Joker in the video? That crazy dude who sent anal beads and used condoms to his castmates as a gag? Color me intrigued. What’s that you say? He’s just going to walk around twirling a cane, occasionally rolling and cracking his neck to give off an impression of instability, looking around everywhere but not actually for anything. And you’re going to put him on a boat driving past shipping containers while he gives a dead-eyed stare for no reason, but you’re not once going to show his actual purple Lamborghini. That makes no god damn sense. Yeah, I’m out.
If you’re not though, check out the video for Skrillex and Rick Ross’ “Purple Lamborghini” above.
