Mark Kozelek has finally found his happy place. The alternative folk singer-songwriter today shared a new Sun Kil Moon song entitled “I Love Portugal”, and the title pretty much says all you need to know about the track. The (relatively) sunny ode finds Kozelek spending his last day in Oporto, PT before heading to his next tour stop, but he wants to do anything but leave. He contrasts the peace he finds there with the gun violence of the United States and the unrest that causes a show in Switzerland to be canceled.
It’s a strange thing to find Kozelek cheery about anything (measured as it is), but that seems to be a running theme with his new double-LP, Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys of Blood. Due out February 28th via Caldo Verde, the record has already been previewed with the lovely “God Bless Ohio”, and now this. Things might finally be looking up for Sun Kil Moon.
