It’s not easy to lose a loved one, but to write a song about it — much less an entire album — takes a level of courage that most chest-thumping hardcore bands can’t muster. Touché Amoré’s fourth studio album, entitled Stage Four, is a deeply personal one for frontman Jeremy Bolm, who lost his mother to cancer in 2014 and hasn’t stopped feeling that loss since.

It’s everywhere in the video and lyric sheet for Touché Amoré’s new single “Skyscraper”, which the band premiered via Noisey. Bolm is front-and-center in the video, wandering through a colorless version of New York City while the song’s subdued intro slowly builds to a deafening roar. Julien Baker lends her vocal talents to the track, but the focus remains on Bolm throughout, as he reflects on a memory of visiting NYC with his mother in the months before her death.

Watch the video for “Skyscraper” below. Stage Four is due out September 16th on Epitaph.
