Savvy U2 fans probably knew something was up when the rockers named their tour behind 2014’s Songs of Innocence the Innocence and Experience Tour. After all, they have the songs for the first part of the name, but what of the second part? Well, the band has confirmed that they’re indeed hard at work on a new LP called Songs of Experience.
The band was in Valencia, Spain for a friend’s wedding when U2 en España caught up with them. The Edge said they had about 50 songs being narrowed down for the album, and Bono added that he thinks its some of their best lyricism in some time. “It’s not finished yet but you will like it,” he told U2 en España. “In terms of lyrics it is stronger than War; it has more clarity.”
Bono also hinted at a second leg of the Innocence and Experience tour (the experience half, one might assume). “The second part of the tour is for 2017,” he said before teasing, “You might see a few things in September or October though.” Bassist Adam Clayton said that both the album and a new set of tour dates could be expected “Soon … in the next six months.” Already U2 are confirmed to appear at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas in September.
