Rising three-piece outfit Del Caesar may currently call Brooklyn home, but their sound is decidedly of another place — and time, frankly. Their bluesy raucous recalls English legends The Kinks and Rolling Stones and even the rock ‘n’ rollers of the ’60s American South like Roy Orbison. Del Caesar debuted these classic stylings on their first EP, released back in May, and will continue to explore and expand on them on the follow-up, aptly titled EP2.

The forthcoming effort arrives on November 11th via the band’s own Reheated Spaghetti imprint, and is being previewed today with lead single “Like They Always Say”. “I woke up in a cold sweat/ With chills right to the bone/ Took one look outside/ And saw the cops out on the lawn,” frontman Aaron Lloyd Barr opens with a soulful yet jaunty swagger that would easily make Mick Jagger proud.

In a statement to Consequence of Sound, Barr talks about how the song came to be:

“The whole song started from the bass line. We were working with a different song. It wasn’t really working so we were taking a break and just messing around with song ideas. Eric, our bassist, basically said something along the lines of, ‘You call that a garage rock riff? Fuck that, THIS is a garage rock riff… ba dum-dum dum.’ From there, we just came up with the entire song on the spot. We just played it, I sang the melody and most of the lyrics improv style. The whole thing was done in 30 minutes!”

Not so bad for such a quickly formed song. Stream “Like They Always Say” below.
