Justin Bieber has a history of tarnishing the legacy of ’90s music. Whether it’s ripping off fashion to make a buck (a buck he doesn’t need, mind you) or insensitively paying “tribute” to rock legends, the 22-year-old pop star seems to have a callous disregard for how you feel about the icons of the era. He proved this once again when he appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and acoustically covered — brace yourself — Tupac.
Now, look, we get it — Biebs is a big Tupac fan, and there’s respect in that. But there’s more respect in staying in your lane, and this is so far outside of Bieber’s lane that he just crashed through the median strip and caused a 50 car pileup. Sure, he sounds fine on the J. Phoenix chorus of “Thugz Mansion”, but none of the rest of the song feels right coming out of his mouth. The fact that he’s saying things like, “I need a place to rest my head/ With the little bit of homeboys that remains, cause all the rest dead” while he’s sitting inside his own personal mansion is just cringeworthy.
