We’re creeping closer and closer to the 25th anniversary reissue of the self-titled album from Temple of the Dog. The hotly anticipated release has already been previewed with the previously unreleased demo “Black Cat”, and as we approach the September 30th due date, another unheard track has been unleashed online.
“Angel of Fire” plays like a lit stick of nostalgia incense. It burns slow and just a little hazy, smelling distinctly of ’90s flannel and old champagne. Chris Cornell sings out in that soulful moan of his, telling the tale of a lover who battles her dueling desires to stay or go. “She says I can’t believe him/ If I gave him enough rope he’d hang me,” he belts out. “But when she turns to him/ There’s no place she’d rather be.” Take a listen above.
