After coming together to grieve the loss of their former leader, Prince’s original band The Revolution announced a reunion in tribute to their Purple Pioneer. The first of three planned gigs at the iconic First Avenue in Minneapolis — the setting for much of Purple Rain — went down on Thursday evening, and it was as reverential and remarkable a show as you might expect.

The Revolution’s Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, BrownMark, Dr. Fink, and Bobby Z. were joined by guest guitarist Dez Dickerson and bassist André Cymone. Other special guests included Purple Rain co-star and Prince’s former lover Apollonia, Bilal, Prince’s ex-wives Mayte Garcia and Manuela Testolini, and his one-time girlfriend (and Wendy’s twin sister) Susannah Melvoin.

Check out footage and images from the evening below. The Revolution will continue their tribute reunion with shows tonight (September 2nd) and tomorrow.
