Until now, it was the former for Paramount’s Mission: Impossible franchise. While Tom Cruise has long been the face of the series, staring with Brian De Palma’s 1996 blockbuster that kicked it all off, pre-production on the sixth entry stalled earlier this summer when Paramount and Skydance reportedly balked on his stake of the backend profits.
Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise and the respective studios have smoothed things over and once again he’ll return as Ethan Hunt. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote and directed last year’s exceptional Rogue Nation, remains on board for double duties with production shifting from January to Spring 2017. Mission accomplished.
