LA-based indie quartet Warpaint recently released their third album, Heads Up, which featured the surprisingly pop-leaning lead single “New Song”. Our own Edward Dunbar described the track as showcasing “a willingness to diversity styles and … a perfect opportunity for [drummer Stella] Mozgawa to unleash some thumping dance beats.”
More of those dance beats arrived today courtesy of a hip-hop remix by the Beastie Boys’ Mike D, who turns up the bass to glass-shattering levels, takes the tempo down a notch, and leans heavily on the vocals for melody. The result is far enough removed from its original context to not resemble Warpaint much at all, yet it never seems to compromise the band’s vision. Check it out below.
