On January 13th, Code Orange will return with a new album called Forever. The Roadrunner Records release marks the Pittsburgh hardcore outfit’s third full-length following 2014’s I Am King. It was recorded with producers Will Yip (Braid, Nothing) and past collaborator Kurt Ballou of Converge.
“It’s not a flow-y process – it’s pretty painful,” drummer/vocalist Jami Morgan told Rolling Stone of the recording process. “Grinding, screaming at each other, and just making it happen. We’ve been friends for so long. Jamming doesn’t work for what we’re trying to accomplish. It’s just pain, whether it’s, like, truly physical, or a little more bizarre. There’s a lot of bands about fun, especially in hardcore. Our band is not about fun. It’s never fun, but it’s rewarding.”
Code Orange are previewing the new album today with its pummeling title track, which serves as something of a bold statement to their critics. “Everywhere we’ve turned, we’ve met a lot of ‘You’re not this enough for this, or that enough for that,'” said Morgan. “‘Forever’ opens it up by saying, ‘Fuck you, we’re here. We’re gonna do whatever the fuck we wanna do, and there are no rules.'”
