Long Island hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim have officially reunited. The legendary DJ/MC team broke the news via a string of tweets posted to their Twitter page throughout the week. “It’s official. You heard it here first… We are back,” they wrote on Thursday. More details followed in the coming days, including an interactive poll that asks fans to pick the city where the duo will kick off their forthcoming tour. As part of the lead-up to that tour, they’ve also created T-shirts advocating Eric B.’s improbable run for POTUS.
Update: According to Rolling Stone, Eric B. & Rakim will reissue all four of their studio albums and also plan to film new music videos for songs like “I Ain’t No Joke” and “Paid in Full”.
Considered one of the most important groups to emerge from hip-hop’s late ’80s “golden age,” Eric B. & Rakim initially broke up in 1993 following the release of their 1992 album Don’t Sweat the Technique. Though they haven’t performed together in more than 20 years, both artists have released solo albums. They were announced as one of fifteen finalists to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in September 2011, though they haven’t been nominated in the years since.
