Nas and Erykah Badu joined forces this past July on “This Bitter Land”, a mournful orchestral number. The song, which is taken from the soundtrack for the Nas’ executive-produced film The Land, was brought to life on Wednesday as the two musicians performed it together for the first time on Kimmel. Catch the replay below.
The Land, which features Badu in a starring role, “tells the story of four teenage boys who devote their summer to escaping the streets of Cleveland to pursue a dream life of professional skateboarding.” It opened in theaters over the summer to solid reviews.
Along with the performance, Nas also sat down with Jimmy Kimmel for a brief interview. Asked why it’s taken him so long to release a new album, he answered, “I gotta live life, I gotta experiene things. Sometimes music can shift society, man. When I started out, I didn’t know this thing would be so global. Things are changing, music is changing, so I just want to make sure … I gotta feel it. It’s all about the feeling.” Nas’ last album came in the form of 2012’s Life is Good.
