Foxygen return with dramatic new single “America” — listen

on October 13, 2016, 11:06am

For those concerned that last year’s Star Power Farewell Tour would actually be the end of Foxygen, fear not. The psych rock duo have reappeared today with their first new track since May 2015’s “24 Hour Lover Man”, and it’s certainly a dramatic return.

Entitled “America”, the new song finds Jonathan Rado and Sam France teaming with a full 34-piece orchestra to create an ambition and theatrical piece of music. That majority of the track is purely instrumentation, swinging from Broadway drama to playful bombast to bubbly swing throughout the extended bridges. “If you’re already there/ Then you’re already dead/ If you’re living in America, whoa,” France sings during the climatic semi-chorus. Take a listen to the song above.

The track comes a little over a year after Foxygen put to rest their …And Star Power persona with the aforementioned farewell tour. They’re scheduled to retake the stage once again this weekend at Desert Daze. A video for “America” is forthcoming, and you can see via the teaser below.
