Fresh off a well-received performance of the titular character in Oliver Stone’s Snowden, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is heading into space. The actor has been cast as the lead in Sovereign, a sci-fi thriller from director Marc Munden.
According to Deadline, the story will find Gordon-Levitt portraying a man whose marriage has just fallen apart. Before he’s had time to move on, his wife goes missing along with the entire crew of a space station. He heads out to find out what really happened to the missing people, but ends up facing the truth about his own marriage as well.
Munden recently gained notoriety for his British TV mini-series National Treasure. He’ll work from a script drafted by Geoff Tock and Gregory Weidman (TV’s Limitless) that’s currently being rewritten by Jack Thorne. Like Munden, Thorne’s star has risen sharply thanks to a recent success; in his case, it was his script for the play Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. The production team will be made up of Arrival producers Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen.
