Patrick Warburton is Lemony Snicket in teaser for Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events — watch

Netflix has released the first teaser for its adaptation of the popular young adult books A Series of Unfortunate Events. However, the series’ creator, Lemony Snicket (played by Patrick Warburton), would rather you not watch the show at all.

The preview finds Warburton’s Snicket walking through a dark soundstage set, explaining that the cast and crew working on the series has come down with “melancholia, ennui, and acute wistfulness.” He begs you to turn away from the screen, warning, “Please don’t make the same mistake that Netflix has. Look away before this dire tale is even filmed, and avoid the cruel whimsy and whimsical cruelty of what’s to come.”

But if you dare watch the story of the Baudelaire orphans and their evil third cousin twice removed, Count Olaf (played by Neil Patrick Harris), then you can tune in when the eight-episode first season debuts on Friday, January 13th. Watch the trailer above.

The gothic story of A Series of Unfortunate Events was first adapted into a film starring Jim Carrey in 2004. In addition to Warburton and Harris, Netflix’s version also stars Joan Cusack, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes.
