As the tape’s title suggests, the effort is centered around reaching your goals and making the most of life. In discussing that motto, however, Saba ends up creating a vivid and touching picture of his home in the West Side of Chicago. Previously revealed singles “Church/Liquor Store” and “Westside Bound III” are akin to audio tours in hip-hop form.
“Saba fills Bucket List Project with bold determination, and when he takes a celebratory moment on closer ‘California’, it’s an earned triumph,” Consequence of Sound’s David Sackllah wrote in his review. “… Bucket List Project altogether is an accomplished statement from the young rapper. Earlier this fall, he told the Red Eye that his goal for the album was to connect with kids on the West Side who may be going through something similar to him. In doing that, he serves as a voice for all those kids to show the world what it’s really like to grow up there.”
Bucket List Project features guest appearances from Noname, Matthew Santos, Smino, Twista, and Saba’s brother, Joseph Chilliams, among others. Chance even stops by in one spoken word segment. Take a listen to the entire thing below.
