Billy Corgan blasts celebrity Cubs fans: “I don’t necessarily see them in June”

Bill Murray, Amy Schumer, Vince Vaughn, and John Cusack are just some of the big-name celebrity Cubs fans that have turned up at Wrigley Field recently since their home team joined the World Series for the first time since 1945. Longtime supporter and Chicagoan Billy Corgan has also been in attendance, but makes it a point not to mingle with those Hollywood types — he is strictly an anti-Cubs celebrity fan.

“I don’t talk to other Cubs celebrities,” the Smashing Pumpkins frontman told the Chicago Tribune. “In fact, I’m anti-Cubs celebrity. Although I know a few Cubs celebrities, other Cubs celebrities tend to show up when the playoffs are around. I don’t necessarily see them in June. I might be a little biased being a Chicagoan year-round.” Perhaps he, Eddie Vedder, and Jack White should form their own musical Cubs alliance, as each has been spotted rooting for the Cubs in good times and bad.

Corgan, who sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at a Cubs game back in 2011, listed Bob Dernier, Mick Kelleher, Jose Cardenal, and Andre Dawson as some of his all-time favorite players. After waiting some seven decades for a shot at the World Series, the alt rocker is more than ready to see this club go all the way. “I just love the way the team plays. I think that’s part of what the vibe is, not just the chance we have to win a World Series but we’re looking at a team that is going to be great for years to come.”
