Val Kilmer has “no cancer whatsoever,” according to a lengthy note posted to the actor’s Facebook page Tuesday night. The message refutes rumors earlier this week started by friend and former co-star Michael Douglas.
“I love Michael Douglas but he is misinformed,” Kilmer’s post starts. “The last time I spoke to him was almost two years ago, when I asked him for a referral for a specialist to get a diagnosis for a lump in my throat.” Since then, Kilmer says he’s received treatment from a team at UCLA and is “rehabbing steadily.”
“Some fans have mistakenly thought my silence about my personal issues meant that somehow I wasn’t being responsible to my health, because of my reliance on prayer and Love,” he continues, referencing his following of Christian Science, a set of beliefs founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the 19th century which says that illness can often be cured with just prayer alone. “Nothing could be further from the truth. Altho I am very grateful for all the support from around the world, when people found out I had a physical challenge.”
