Jack White performs acoustic version of “The Rose with the Broken Neck” in new video — watch

Prior to taking an extended break from the road, Jack White embarked on a short run of acoustic shows in April 2015. The surprise gigs cost only $3 and featured selections from across his solo catalog, The White Stripes, and The Raconteurs. Today, professionally shot footage from one of those concerts has surfaced, and it captures the Nashville rocker offering up a moving, solemn rendition of “The Rose with the Broken Neck”, a song he helped write for Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s collaborative 2011 album, Rome.

Produced by White himself, the gorgeous black-and-white clip features the Third Man Records label head front and center at Wyoming’s Pink Garter Theatre, accompanied by Lillie Mae on mandolin, Fats Kaplin on fiddle, and Dominic Davis manning the upright bass. White prefaced the performance by talking about how difficult it was writing the vocals and lyrics for a song whose music he hadn’t composed. But, as he says, “If you let God inside the room, he does all the work for you.”
