Report: Carrie Fisher is intensive care after suffering heart attack

on December 23, 2016, 7:09pm

This afternoon, Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher suffered what was described as a “major heart attack” while on a flight from London to Los Angeles. After her flight landed, Fisher was rushed to an area hospital and put on a ventilator. In the hours since, Fisher’s condition has stabilized.

Fisher’s brother, Todd, told The Associated Press that the 60-year-old actress was “out of emergency” and recovering. He declined to provide any more specific details on her condition.

Update – 11:30 p.m. CT: In a follow-up interview with The Associated Press, Todd Fisher said his sister remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is receiving “excellent” treatment. He also backtracked from his earlier comments that Carrie was in stable condition, saying her condition is unknown. “We don’t know. We hope for the best,” Todd told Entertainment Tonight. “We certainly do not know her condition, that’s why she is in ICU. I’m sure everyone wants to speculate, but now is not the time for that.”

Fisher is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise. She’s also an accomplished author, mental health advocate, and animal lover. Needless to say, the force is strong with this one.
