ANOHNI joins CocoRosie on new protest song “Smoke ‘Em Out” — listen

on January 17, 2017, 10:45am

Hilary Clinton didn’t lose the election because of her gender, but the fact that an admitted pussy grabber beat her is still a hard pill to swallow for feminists. Instead of seeing the results as a step backwards, however, the women of CocoRosie took it as an oppurtunity to step forward and make their voices heard. On their new single “Smoke ‘Em Out”, the sisterly duo “welcomes the new character who will be occupying the White House with a mob of women and children armed with forks and knives.”

ANOHNI joins in on the chorus with her inimitable warble to deliver the lines, “Smoke ’em out, smoke ’em out/ The dead girl shouts.” The CocoRosie sisters, meanwhile, rap-sing about the modern feminist struggle, following ANOHNI’s words with, “I was on the verge like so many times/ Got children and wives waving forks and knives.” Take a listen above.

Read CocoRosie’s complete statement about the track, which mentions they’re working on a new album, below.

“Today we share a new song to inspire the weary-disappointed hearts of so many crest-fallen citizens. We just started working on a new album, but ‘Smoke ’em Out’ begged to be turned loose on the world now, as a means of participation during these turbulent yet invigorating times. Joined on guest vocals by our fellow Future Feminist ANOHNI, ‘Smoke ’em Out’ welcomes the new character who will be occupying the White House with a mob of women and children armed with forks and knives. In the wake of this unnatural disaster, we feel a call to rise, shout, and burn the house down. The future is female.

peace, Bianca & Sierra Casady”
