Bruce Springsteen is still out promoting his memoir, Born to Run. His latest media appearance came in the form of an hour-long conversation on comedian Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. Both natives of New Jersey, the two men began by waxing nostalgic about their formative years at the Jersey Shore. As the discussion continued, Springsteen spoke about his initial difficulty with getting attention from major labels (he was a kid from New Jersey, after all), his battle with depression (“I didn’t trust anyone or anything I hadn’t built myself”); the inspiration for his 1982 album, Nebraska (“I felt so alienated from everything I was coming in contact with”), and his fear of the impending Trump administration (“Do they simply have the competence?”).
