For such a prominent director of horror films, it’s curious that M. Night Shyamalan has never indulged in one of the genre’s staples: the sequel. Coming off his new psychological thriller Split, that appears set to change. In a new interview with Uproxx, Shyamalan confirmed that a sequel to his 2000 superhero thriller Unbreakable is now his highest priority.

“I do intend on making a final Unbreakable movie and I’m intending on doing it next,” the director said. And if you’ve yet to see Split, we suggest you take that quote for what it is and stop reading now to avoid spoilers.

Those who have seen Shyamalan’s latest may have already guessed an Unbreakable sequel was in the cards, as [MAJOR SPOILER ALERT] Split’s final scene reveals that it takes place in the same cinematic universe as the original. Shyamalan intends for the next Unbreakable to be “the final movie of these two movies put together.”

Unbreakable, the hugely successful follow-up to Shyamalan’s breakout film, The Sixth Sense, starred Bruce Willis as a man searching for answers after emerging from a train wreck unscathed. Shyamalan certainly seems interested in bringing Willis and co-star Samuel L. Jackson back to reprise their roles alongside Split’s James McAvoy.

“I’m still close to Bruce and everybody,” the director said. “And obviously I’m still close to James and still in touch with Sam and all that stuff. So, hopefully that becomes a reality very soon.”
