Trevante Rhodes, the breakout star who portrays the grown-up version of Moonlight protagonist Chiron, has joined the cast of Shane Black’s The Predator. Considering the depth and gravity Rhodes brought to Moonlight (which we recently honored as the Performance of the Year), this should come as welcome news to fans of the sci-fi movie franchise, especially those still mourning Benicio Del Toro’s departure from the 20th Century Fox reboot.
Rhodes will join Narcos star Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn in The Predator’s ensemble, which will do battle with the murderous alien in the suburbs this time around. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Rhodes will play the best friend of Holbrook’s character, with both rumored to be ex-Marines.
Already a hot commodity going into awards season, Rhodes also recently joined the cast of the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced war drama Horse Soldiers, which also stars Chris Hemsworth and Michael Pena.
Update: Keegan-Michael Key has also joined the film’s cast.
