Spoon played a semi-secret show at Antone’s in their hometown of Austin Friday night, debuting four songs from their forthcoming ninth studio album, due out in March via Matador. The band announced the 40-minute set to select fans on their email list Thursday night, including a link to an already-booked show featuring local acts Jai Malano and Don Leady & His Rockin’ Revue. As Austin 360 reports, both acts moved their sets back an hour to allow Britt Daniel and co. to appear as the show’s surprise opener.

After premiering the four songs from their as-yet-untitled ninth studio album, Spoon finished with four others drawn from previous records. Austin 360 describes the new material as “mostly of a piece with the sharp-edged, punk-fueled pop that dominates the band’s back catalog, with no major sonic departures other than their gradual shift in recent years toward more reliance on keyboards.” Update: Watch fan-shot footage below.

Check out the full setlist below, via a tweet the band sent out after the show.

In other Spoon-related news, Daniel recently got together with Sleater-Kinney and The Thermals to cover David Bowie‘s “Rebel, Rebel” on New Year’s Eve. Check out that performance here.
