The xx cover Drake and Rihanna’s “Too Good” for BBC Radio 1 — listen

on January 13, 2017, 10:10am

In support of new album I See You, out today via Young Turks, The xx recorded a session at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Along with lead single “On Hold”, they performed an intimate rendition of “Too Good”, Drake’s Views collaboration with Rihanna.

“We love this song,” said The xx’s Oliver Sim said of Drizzy’s original. “We have taken it to a different place — it’s maybe not as danceable, but we hope you enjoy it.” Hear their entire Live Lounge episode here (scroll to the 2:15:00 mark for the cover).

The xx, Drake, and Rihanna all share some history with one another. The 2012 Drake and Rihanna track “Take Care” sampled Jamie xx’s reworking of Gil Scott-Heron’s version of “I’ll Take Care of You”. Additionally, Rihanna’s 2011 ballad “Drunk on Love” featured a sample of “Intro”, off The xx’s debut album. Here’s hoping one day all three acts will actually collaborate on an original song.

Stream/download I See You here, and catch The xx live on their recently announced North American tour.
