Willow Smith gracefully covers Joanna Newsom’s “The Book of Right-On” — watch

Like brother Jaden, Willow Smith often marches to the beat of her own drum. Lately, the music that’s moved her both literally and figuratively is that of — wait for it — Joanna Newsom.

Twice this month, Smith has taken to Instagram and Facebook to share clips of her covering the folk songwriter’s “The Book of Right-On”, off acclaimed debut album The Milk-Eyed Mender. It’s a random selection — aside from hubby Andy Samberg, how many Hollywood types have you seen mention, much less cover, Newsom? — but Smith handles the rendition with a calming sense of grace. Check out the clips below.

Over the years, Smith has also covered Erykah Badu, King Krule, and Sean Lennon. Most recently, she released the excellent single “November 9th”, contributed to Kid Cudi’s latest LP, and teamed up with actor Michael Cera on a project.
