Joel and Ethan Coen are set to write and direct a Western television series, becoming the next of many successful mainstream film directors to take a stab at the medium. It’s called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and we know little else except that that is a such a Coens’ title.
According to Variety, which describes the project as both a “miniseries” and an “anthology,” the narrative will intertwine six separate storylines over the course of its run. It may also, a la Imagine Entertainment’s original vision for Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, incorporate a theatrical element to complement the series.
The Coens clearly have an affinity for the genre, what with both True Grit and No Country for Old Men in their oeuvre.
Currently, it’s being shepherded through Annapurna’s television division. Production has yet to begin.
