Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city becomes longest-running hip-hop album on Billboard charts

King Kendrick Lamar has added another feather to his crown. The Compton rapper’s good kid, m.A.A.d city just made music history as the longest-running hip-hop album on the Billboard 200 charts.

In taking the title, Kendrick’s 2012 breakout album surpasses Eminem and his Eminem Show LP from 2002. good kid has spent a record-breaking total of 358 weeks on the charts compared to Slim Shady’s 357.

As XXL points out, Em’s Curtain Call has been on Billboard the longest. However, the 2005 release is technically a greatest hits collection and not a proper studio effort of new material.

Kendrick was poised to overtake Eminem after making significant strides to catch up to the Detroit MC over the summer.

Kung Fu Kenny’s second full-length overall, good kid boasts classic singles “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”. It received four Grammy nominations upon release, including a nod for Album of the Year.

Of course, this achievement is just one of many for Kendrick. The Top Dawg also is a Pulitzer Prize and Grammy winner, holder of a key to Compton, and one of Barack Obama’s favorite rappers. His last masterpiece, DAMN., dropped in 2017 and won the Grammy for Best Rap Album the following year. Recently, Kendrick and fiancée Whitney Alford welcomed their first child.
