TNGHT share first new song in six years “Serpent”: Stream

on September 22, 2019, 10:33pm

TNGHT, the collaborative project of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice, have released a song called “Serpent”. It’s their first new music in six years. Stream it below.

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from TNGHT. Ever since they released their debut self-titled EP in 2012, the two were propelled into producer stardom. They collaborated on Kanye West’s Yeezus, signed separate publishing deals with G.O.O.D. Music, and contributed to major albums, with Mohawke working on the likes of Drake’s Nothing Was the Same and Lunice teaming up with Skrillex. Barely a year after their EP dropped, though, TNGHT went on a hiatus to pursue solo careers.

Both have done a lot in that time, so it comes as a pleasant surprise that Mohawke and Lunice decided to revive their TNGHT moniker. “Serpent” plays into the chaotic mix of electronic maximalism that earned them fame. While there’s no word yet about a proper record, this single is technically released through Warp/LuckyMe, so it seems like more music could be on the way.

“Serpent” is a bouncy, wild track that combines blown-out bass notes, animal-like screeches, and metallic clanging. That may not sound like a good dance track, but TNGHT managed to turn it into one. The song also comes with a glitchy, minimalist music video that goes between close-up animated facial shots to highlighted sections of the galaxy. Check it out below.
