Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo Talks New Album Disease, AC/DC, Hardcore Shows and More

on July 09, 2019, 4:30pm

Beartooth released their third album, Disease, in September of last year, and they’ve been touring the world in support of the LP ever since. The band played a hometown set at the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, Ohio, in May, and that’s where we caught up with frontman Caleb Shomo.

Shomo, who records all the instruments and vocals himself in the studio, talked about the significance of the title Disease, explaining, “The album is really about me trying to cope with my mental health … and just diving into that side of my life. …  Making a record directly about that helped me realize a lot of things I needed to realize in my life, and help me overcome a lot of things.”

The singer also discusses some of his influences growing up, telling us, “My favorite band of all time is AC/DC. They’re a massive influence … but it’s more like music scenes. … For me, hardcore shows always had a really big impact on me, ’cause it was the craziest moshing, and people jumping off stuff, and no rules, so that really influenced our live show a lot.”

The frontman also speaks about the band’s new single “You Never Know”, and more. Check out our video interview with Caleb Shomo above.

Beartooth have tour dates scheduled through March 2020. See their current itinerary here, and pick up the album Disease at this location.
