Is this computer program the future of hip-hop?

on June 03, 2015, 4:45pm

Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z — who’s the greatest rapper of all-time? Turns out the answer to the age old question might not be a person, but rather a thing.

In this exclusive Q&A, Rock it Out! Blog host Sami Jarroush chats with Eric Malmi, a doctoral candidate at Aalto University in Finland and creator of the program DeepBeat. Malmi discusses the origin of DeepBeat, an algorithm that generates its own rhymes by analyzing over 10,000 songs from other rap artists and pumping out rhymes of its own. One could conceivably argue that DeepBeat is the greatest rapper ever.

Malmi explains how DeepBeat breaks down other lyrics to create its own and his intention to have DeepBeat battle humans one day.
