Masterpiece Reviews: “Aretha Franklin – Lady Soul”

on March 24, 2015, 5:45pm

Welcome to the latest edition of Masterpiece Reviews. Once again, we’ve thrown on our favorite velvet robe, turned up the fire, and are here to regale you with stories of the greatest and most classic albums of all time. It’s a fresh, new perspective on why these albums are filed under “M” for masterpiece.

Aretha Franklin was already a voice to be reckoned with following her 1967 single “Respect”, but she would cement her place in American music the following year with the release of one of her most legendary albums Lady Soul. On the backs of singles “Chain Of Fools” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, not to mention the sweet vocal harmonies of her band The Sweet Inspirations, Franklin’s rise to the top seemed destined. It’s no wonder the following year, she would earn two Grammy Awards.
